R-CALF Still After Canadian Cattle |
Just when you thought we were moving forward in the Canadian cattle industry, R-CALF is back in the courts. American ranchers group R-CALF is still hard at it, trying to stop Canadian beef from going across the border.
We now know an appeals court in Portland, Oregon, has reserved its decision on the latest bid by R-CALF to restrict all Canadian cattle imports into the United States. The Ranchers-Cattlemen Action Legal Fund asked a 3-member panel in the Court of Appeals to send the case back to district court in Montana for reconsideration. R-CALF argues that Canadian imports are unsafe and U.S. officials are endangering the food supply by allowing them into their country. John Masswohl, of the Canadian Cattlemen's Association, attended the hearing and says he heard no new arguments from the R-CALF side. |
